Shoulder instability is a problem that occurs when the structures that surround the glenohumeral (Shoulder) joint do not work to maintain the ball within its socket. If the Shoulder joint is too loose, is may slide partially out of place, a condition called Shoulder subluxation. If the Shoulder joint comes completely out of place, this is called a Shoulder dislocation. Patients with Shoulder instability often complain of an uncomfortable sensation/Shoulder pain that their Shoulder may be about to slide out of place
What are the cause of Shoulder Instability?
A common cause is due to injury to the Shoulder during a fall or a sports related injury. Other causes may include very lax or hyper mobile joints
What are the treatment for Shoulder Instability?
A surgical procedure of closed reduction is usually done to return the Shoulder to its normal position. It can be done by Arthroscopic surgery,which is performed through small incisions using a camera to visualize the inside of a joint. Through several small incisions (about 1 centimeter each) Dr.Kevin yip will insert a camera into one incision, and small instruments through the other incisions.
